Recycled TVs typically go through a specific process to ensure proper disposal and environmentally responsible handling of electronic waste. Here is a general overview of what happens to recycled TVs:

  1. Collection and Sorting: TVs are collected through various channels such as electronic waste recycling centers, designated drop-off points, or collection programs organized by manufacturers or government agencies. The collected TVs are sorted based on their condition and type (e.g., CRT, LCD, LED).
  2. Dismantling: In the case of older cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs, they are dismantled to separate the hazardous components, such as leaded glass and phosphor powder, from the recyclable materials. This process is carried out in specialized recycling facilities.
  3. Material Recovery: After dismantling, the various components of the TVs are processed for material recovery. This involves separating materials like metals (e.g., steel, copper, aluminum) and plastics, which can be recycled and reused in the manufacturing of new products.
  4. Proper Disposal: Any hazardous materials or components that cannot be recycled, such as leaded glass from CRT TVs, are disposed of according to environmental regulations and guidelines. Specialized waste management facilities handle the disposal of hazardous electronic waste to minimize the impact on the environment and human health.
  5. Responsible Recycling: It’s important to note that responsible recycling practices prioritize environmental sustainability and compliance with regulations. Recycling facilities that adhere to recognized standards and certifications ensure that the recycling process is carried out in an environmentally sound manner, minimizing the release of harmful substances and maximizing resource recovery.

Recycling TVs helps prevent the improper disposal of electronic waste, which can lead to environmental pollution and health hazards due to the presence of toxic materials. Additionally, recycling allows for the recovery of valuable materials, reducing the need for raw material extraction and conserving natural resources.

Specific processes and destinations for recycled TVs may vary depending on the recycling infrastructure and regulations in different regions or countries. It’s advisable to check with local recycling facilities or electronic waste management authorities to understand the specific procedures and options available in your area.

To someone uninformed in the world of electronics, the difference between LED, OLED, and QLED TVs may seem trivial. However, there’s a world of difference!

LED vs. OLED vs. QLED TVs

Thinking of buying a new television?

A Google search produces phrases like OLED, QLED, and LED LCD. What do all of these terms mean and which set should you choose?

Read on to discover the different types of televisions. And find out which one will suit your budget and expectations.

What Is an LED Television?

Liquid Crystal Display or LCD technology dates back to the 1960s and gained popularity in the 90s as a TV format. Lightweight screens soon outsold bulky rounded displays as the flat screen revolution began.

But what has an LCD television got to do with an LED TV?

An LCD screen requires a backlight to work. This is often in the form of a LED (Light-Emitting Diode). This semiconductor glows when a voltage is applied to create the images on the screen.

Not all LCD displays use LED. Some use fluorescent backlights, unlike the light-emitting technology that powers LED. However, the difference in quality is huge, with LED offering superior picture quality over the basic standard.

What Is an OLED TV?

Organic Light-Emitting Diode or OLED televisions use individual cells to produce a light source. This offers several advantages over traditional LED screens like:

Smoother on-screen motion

Deeper blacks

Ultra-thin screens

Better viewing angles

OLEDs also use less power so they’re more environmentally friendly. You can also view the screen no matter where in the room you sit. And you don’t need to draw the curtains to watch darker-lit movies.

Yet OLED TVs come at a premium price so be prepared to dip deep into your pocket.

What Is a QLED TV?

Why does Samsung not make OLED TVs but chooses to manufacture QLED sets instead?

The Q stands for ‘quantum dot’. These tiny dots form a layer in front of the television’s backlight to create the colors. They replace the liquid crystals in LCD and Samsung says they provide a more vibrant image.

Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode sets are a quality product like OLED TVs and currently, only Samsung makes them.

LED vs OLED vs QLED TVs

Thinking of buying a new television set? Which technology should you purchase?

Many gamers swear by OLED technology, especially sets manufactured by LG. Resolutions reach 3840×2160 for a 48 inch display. Also, the sets total a featherweight 42lbs.

Family viewing TVs that stretch across the wall up to 85 inches tend to veer towards QLED by Samsung.

The narrow design and incredible brightness immerse everyone in what they’re watching. The QN90A Neo model even has a solar-powered remote control.

LCD LED screens are becoming less fashionable but usually aren’t as expensive as their younger siblings. They’re a great purchase for those on a tight budget.

Refurbished products are products that have been returned to either a Manufacturer or a Retailer. Once the products have been processed they are tested to meet or exceed manufacturer’s specifications. They are usually sold at a discounted price which is good for the consumer. Refurbished products usually come with a warranty. Since they are fully tested, they will perform just as good as new.
